If it is the first edition of the book, this is not included.

Note: The same principles of ‘and’ versus ‘&’, and the principles regarding the number of authors, are applicable to the citing and referencing of journal articles

Referencing Individual chapters in edited books

IN-TEXT CITATION

When citing an individual chapter within the body of the thesis or assignment, refer to the author of the chapter

Palmer (1999) ...

.... (Palmer, 1999)

FORMAT OF A REFERENCE TO A CHAPTER

Author’s Surname, Initials. Date of publication. ‘Title of chapter or paper’.  In: Editor’s surname, initials. ed(s). Title of book in italics. Place of publication: Publisher. Page numbers of the individual chapter.


EXAMPLE OF A CHAPTER IN A PRINTED BOOK

Palmer, A. 1999. ‘Services marketing is not new’. In: Berry, J. and Swan, P. eds. Services marketing, concepts and cases.  New York: McGraw-Hill. 101-120.

Note that the title of the chapter is in single quotation marks and the book’s title is in italics.
